Newsletter 22nd January 2012

The big news this year is that we now have more than 400 members in our organisation and we are welcoming more and more each week. This is not surprising when to continue to belong is just €10 a year. Brian Thomas will give much more detail on the membership and accounts at the Annual General Meeting which is being held this coming Friday 27/1/12 at the San Cristobal Hotel, Ramon y Cajal.  Entrance to the hotel can be made from Ricardo Soriano opposite Alameda park and Café Marbella in central Marbella.  The meeting is scheduled for 10.30 am to start promptly at 11 so there is a chance for potential soporifics to get a black coffee beforehand. Please beware – this year cattle prods will be in use.  All the details have been sent to you previously but they are still available on request or viewable on our website. One further very welcome change is that Kathy Scott will be proposed as Assistant Treasurer.

Newsletter 11th January

First and foremost…………..Happy New Year to you!

Are you sitting comfortably?    Then I’ll begin.

There is a very important change from information sent to you recently. Due to circumstances beyond our control (they always are, are they not?) the venue for the Annual General Meeting is now the San Cristobal Hotel in central Marbella. Pedestrian access to the hotel is from Avda Ramon y Cajal or Ricardo Soriano – telephone number 952 771250.  It is situated directly opposite Alameda Park on the main road.  Those coming by car will need to park away from the immediate area or in Alameda car park. The start time remains the same at 10.30 for 11 a.m. and for those attending the lunch afterwards it will be now just a short roll down Avenida del Mar past the Dalli statues to the restaurant.  Please spread the word to anyone you know who intends to come along.

Dear Member

At U3A Marbella and Inland we are constantly seeking to add new groups and activities to the list for our burgeoning membership. So if you think you may be able to organise a regular or indeed occasional course do not hesitate to get in touch with us. Maybe you know someone who can help. There’s a big fat Kitchener finger pointing at you!

August Newsletter

Dear Member

What an eventful era in which we live. Waging a costly war against another country is normally a great opportunity for jingoism and flag waving (and political enhancement), but news of war is now largely consigned to brief articles in journals and scarce, if any, mention in television news despite continued loss of life. Were progress being made it might perhaps be a different matter. Headlines rather are directed at the wildebeest-like movements of stock traders and the apparent incompetency of all politicians and their inability to instil confidence. No surprises there, eh?

It has been said that Bulls can always make money in the market, Bears can always make money in the market but PIIGS will always get slaughtered.  Very likely!
